Presentation award

Young Investigator Award (YIA)

The YIA competition gives selected young investigators the opportunity to present their research during dedicated plenary sessions at the ISGP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility

• Career stage: PhD students and researchers up to two years after PhD completion are eligible at the time of abstract submission. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the abstract.
• Previous top-three awardees: candidates who have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd may not reapply for the YIA competition for the next consecutive ISGP meetings.
• Previous finalists ranked 4th–12th: candidates may reapply, provided that their abstract and presentation are substantially different, with a different dataset, parameter and/or hypothesis. Eligibility will be assessed case by case.

Abstract selection

A dedicated scientific committee of 6–8 researchers, organised by the Young Investigator Commission, will review the submitted abstracts.

The 12 highest-ranked abstracts will be selected for the award competition, held during three YIA plenary sessions.

Abstracts not selected for the YIA sessions may still be considered for a regular oral or poster presentation, subject to scientific acceptance.

Oral presentation assessment

Oral presentations will be assessed by a jury of 8–10 members, including ISGP Board members, local organisers, representatives of agencies and sponsors, and other relevant contributors.

The jury will represent a broad range of expertise in space physiology.

Support for meeting participation

Young Investigator Travel Grants

Travel grants support eligible young investigators presenting their work at an ISGP Annual Meeting. The ISGP plans to allocate a budget of €6,000 to this programme, which would allow us to award six travel grants of approximately €1,000 each.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be members of ISGP.
• Be both the first author and presenting author of the submitted abstract.
• Be PhD students or researchers no more than two years after PhD completion at the submission deadline.
• Be able to pay their expenses in advance and provide invoices, as grants are paid by reimbursement.
• Provide a letter from their university or principal investigator (PI) confirming that they do not have access to alternative funding sources.

Selection criteria

• Country priority: priority is given to applicants from low- and middle-income countries.
• Scientific quality: abstracts are assessed using the YIA review framework.
• Budget considerations.
• Motivation: applicants must provide a personal motivation statement of no more than 150 words.
